Long shingle beach with pier and historic seafront.
At a spring high tide about 70% of Deal Beach is out of the water. By spring low the sea has drawn back roughly 50 metres, uncovering 95% of it — about 40 hectares of shingle.
Dogs are banned from the beach between Deal Castle and Sandown Castle from 9am to 6pm, 1 May to 30 September. Dogs must be on a lead on the pier and the promenade between the castles all year.
Classified Good by the Environment Agency in 2025, sampled as "Deal Castle", a designated bathing water since 1988. Daily pollution risk forecasts appear on this page in the bathing season.
No RNLI lifeguard patrol here.
Nearby: public toilets, parking and a café or kiosk. Access: a step-free path, accessible toilets and pushchair-friendly access. Flat shingle with firm promenade; good seafront access.
