North-east-facing sandy beach at Leysdown-on-Sea, a holiday town on the Isle of Sheppey. A very gentle gradient exposes wide sands at low tide, backed by cafés and kiosks.

What the tide does here

At a spring high tide only about 13% of Leysdown Beach is out of the water. By spring low the sea has drawn back roughly 800 metres, uncovering 89% of it — about 197 hectares of sand.

Dogs

From 1 May to 30 September dogs are banned from the beach between Stokes Amusements and the steps at the end of The Promenade, and must be on a lead on the promenade there. The rest of the beach is dog-friendly all year.

Water quality

Classified Good by the Environment Agency in 2025, sampled as "Leysdown", a designated bathing water since 1988. Daily pollution risk forecasts appear on this page in the bathing season.
