Sandgate · South Kent · shingle
Quiet shingle beach lined with seafront cottages.
At a spring high tide about 69% of Sandgate Beach is out of the water. By spring low the sea has drawn back roughly 60 metres, uncovering 95% of it — about 69 hectares of shingle.
From 1 May to 30 September dogs are banned from the beach between Sandgate Castle and Battery Point, and must be on a lead on the promenade there. The rest of the beach is dog-friendly all year.
Designated as a bathing water in 2026, but not yet classified — a site needs four seasons of samples first.
No RNLI lifeguard patrol here.
Nearby: public toilets, parking and a café or kiosk. Access: a step-free path and pushchair-friendly access. Flat seafront road; shingle beach with firm upper section.
